The DHT shampoo for hair loss, Revivogen, is actually made up of three separate products: a bio-cleansing shampoo, thickening conditioner and a scalp therapy ointment. Revivogen hair loss products were created by Dr. Alex Khadavi, a board-certified dermatologist. He developed Revivogen after he discovered that he was going bald at the age of 20.
Using these three products in tandem is supposed to stop hair loss by targeting the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) hormones and limiting their production. Real results usually do not show up until two to three months, when hair loss begins to taper and existing hair becomes thicker. For best results, you are supposed to use them daily for 16~18 months.
Looking Inside DHT Shampoo Revivogen
Revivogen’s products have many ingredients that help stop the production of DHT. The primary active ingredients are: Procyanidin Oligomers, Azelaic Acid, Vitamin B6, Zinc, Saw Palmetto Extract, GLA, ALA, Linoleic and Oleic Acid. Many of the above mentioned acids, along with Saw Palmetto Extract, are all known inhibitors for 5-alpha reductase. This is the enzyme that causes normal testosterone to be converted into DHT. Gamma-linoleic Acid (GLA), in particular, is known to block both the type 1 and type 2 5-alpha reductase; many treatments only block type 1. Procyanidin Oligomers have been added to act as a means to stimulate hair growth.
One other important aspect of Revivogen is its “Transmerol Follicular Delivery System” that helps deliver the ingredients to exactly where they need to go. The problem with many shampoos and topical applications is that even if you rub them into your scalp, they are still not getting absorbed properly. With Revivogen’s system, each chemical is directly absorbed by the hair follicle for maximum performance.
How Well Does Revivogen Work?
There have been a lot of mixed reviews about Revivogen. It is important to note that it is not approved by the FDA and even though all of the ingredients are proven safe and there seems to be no short or long-term side effects, you use this product at your own risk. Many people stopped using the product very quickly, because of an increase in hair loss. This does happen in a lot of cases, but it is merely the Procyanidin Oligomers triggering the hair follicles to grow faster. This causes any hair that was about to die to go ahead and fall out.
As it is, Revivogen is a good long-term control option for those who have light to medium hair loss. However, it is a bad choice for someone with heavy hair loss. Also, most reviews indicate that while it is good for hair-loss control, its ability to actually regrow a full head of hair is seriously in doubt.
